Five businesses, one company.
Ventuno has rebuilt itself roughly every five years — testing infrastructure, web publishing, an ad-supported video network, a SaaS streaming platform. Each pivot was forced by the market and answered with engineering. That accumulated experience of operating complex systems in production is what we now build synthetic worlds from.
Our founder had been doing this work in the US. A referral led to Sonoa Systems — a Silicon Valley startup with engineering in Bangalore, building a router-like appliance for XML and SOA governance. Ventuno was tasked with building out their testing infrastructure.
First by adding web development: subscription digital editions for the regional weeklies Thuglak and Nakkeeran. Then our own site, indiainteracts.com — an experiment in marrying professional and user-generated content, with 30 senior journalists across India writing on politics, entertainment and sport alongside edited newswire.
Extending that to video taught us the real lesson: we could create, host and deliver video — and most publishers could not. They started calling to ask how we did it on indiainteracts.com.OneIndia.com asked exactly that, and became our first video customer.
Video CMS, video player and ad server — all our own code, running on AWS for compute and Akamai for delivery. Content aggregated from one side, publishers video-enabled on the other, advertising filling the middle.
With inventory at that scale we worked with leading agencies and video ad networks — Jivox, Komli and others. GroupM was among our largest customers and launched its programmatic platform Xaxis in India on our inventory.
Jio transformed internet access and data costs in India: penetration and video consumption rose exponentially. At the same time Google and Facebook entered video advertising and ad fills fell. A revenue-share model with content owners and publishers stopped being economically viable.
So we rebuilt the platform as SaaS: content owners build, launch, manage and grow their own streaming service on it — web, mobile and connected television, with subscriptions, advertising, live and on-demand. That platform still runs today.
Twenty years of production systems — a CMS, a player, an ad server, a SaaS platform, all rebuilt through four internet eras — is exactly the kind of world an agent must learn to work in. We’re making it trainable, measurable and reproducible.
